More About Our Hawk Experience
As the saying goes – the old ones are the best ones, so we’re bringing our old, but popular ‘Hawk Experience’ back.
Spend a full day at The Raptor Centre; enjoy handling and flying a number of our Birds of Prey throughout the day on this one to one experience.
We always like to ensure that you have someone with you to share your experience with, whether you choose package A, which allows you to bring a non-participating friend to watch you during your experience, or if you go for package B, which allows both of you to participate together.
Experience schedule:
- Your experience starts at 10.30.
- We’ll introduce you to all of the birds that we own, including our pair of breeding (off show) Falcons. At the right time of year you’ll get the opportunity to see the baby Falcons (providing the parents have a successful breeding season).
- Watch our 11.30 dedicated Owls demonstration.
- At the end of the demonstration you’ll get the chance to fly a couple of the Owls.
- Help us to settle the birds back in their aviaries after their flying.
- Break for lunch – not included. Bring your own lunch or, alternatively there is a café that serves hot and cold food and drink.
- Help us to either weigh some of the other birds, or sit in our experience room and spend time with, and feed a bird or two on your glove.
- Help us to prepare the birds for the second flying demonstration.
- At the end of the demonstration, you will get another chance to fly a couple of our other Birds.
- Your experience will come to an end around 16.30

Always!
We regret to inform you that due to our behind the scenes ground, and the bird’s fear of wheelchairs, this experience is only suitable for able bodied people.
This is an outdoor experience, and we recommend you take into account the unpredictability of the great British weather! Please be aware that our Experience Room is not heated, and can often be quite a cool room in the summer months and a cold room in the colder months, so we suggest you always bring an extra layer with you.
Please be aware that this experience involves a lot of standing and walking. The ground behind the scenes is stones, and consequently very uneven. We recommend that participants and guests wear flat and solid footwear that gives good ankle support.
You will be working with live animals, and their welfare will always come first, and sometimes it may be necessary for us to change part of your experience with little or no advanced warning.
Any guest or spectator behaving in a rude/abusive/dangerous or neglectful way, will be escorted off site, with no financial reimbursement for any part of the experience, and no right to return to site in the future.
Lunch is not included, you can bring your own, or you can head down to the café and purchase hot or cold food and drink. At The Centre we do have a fridge, a kettle and we always have a supply of tea bags! Please note that there is no drinking water at The Centre, however there is a free water fountain at the café where you can fill up your water bottle.
There are no toilets at The Centre, the nearest ones are located near the main entrance, and there are further toilets inside the café.
There are hand washing facilities at The Centre.
In the event of another Covid lockdown, vouchers are automatically paused, and will be restarted at the easing. Please also note that it will be necessary for Raptor Handlers to break social distancing in order to conduct this experience. Therefore, this experience can only take place when there are no restrictions in place regarding social distancing and the wearing of face masks.
